So Much For Motivation

May 25, 2011

Two years ago I launched this blog with the idea that I’d explore the edges. That was two years ago, and while I have explored so many edges, I just haven’t captured them here.

So here’s to second chances (or 12th chances, depending upon how you look at it). Here’s to writing, and thinking, and sharing and being somewhat frightened by it all. Not because this is public, but because it is private with a layer of translucency.

The Myth of New

August 14, 2009

I’m getting that middle school feeling in the pit of my stomache all over again. That someone-could-throw-you-into-the-nearest-locker-at-any-moment feeling. I guess it must mean: 1) I’m in over my head 2) I’m about to put myself in a potentially vulnerable position 3) I’m secretly thrilled to be wriggling into a space where I don’t know all the answers (and that, in itself, is pretty scary)!

Today it is because I’m stepping out in front of the curtain and claiming my online voice. The personal/professional one. If you believe each of us is a brand – let’s just call this my soft launch. My goal is to use this blog as a platform to explore ideas that ignite my curiousity, topics that make my brain hurt, and occurances/experiences that make me re-imagine my position and see things differently.

So, today I’m new. But are we really ever new? Or old for that matter? Or our we both at every instant – isn’t every moment a fresh opportunity and the end of the last? Philip Toledano made me think this today through his incredibly beautiful portrait of his love for his father http://www.dayswithmyfather.com.

So I raise my glass to today. To this moment. To the fabric that makes us who we are and the bravery to share it. Let’s explore the edges…
